Officer Thomas Lindsey was shot during a traffic stop.
Officer Lindsey pulled over the vehicle at 9:20 pm, at the corner of Neilson and Eagle Streets and called for backup before he was shot. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and succumbed to his wounds about an hour after the shooting, despite wearing a bullet proof vest. A man and woman taken into custody after being stopped near the shooting were questioned and released.
Officer Lindsey was a US Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Utica Police Department for 5 years. He is survived by his parents and two siblings.
