Hometown: Fayetteville, North Carolina, U.S.
Age: 38 years old
Unit: Marines, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Incident: Died at Landstuhl Reginal Medical Center, Germany, from wounds sustained from a makeshift bomb while conducting combat operations near Habbaniyah.
GySgt Darrell W Boatman entered the Marine Corp on July 26, 1985.
After completing formal training at the School of Infantry, he was assigned to Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, Camp Lejeune, NC.
In July 1992 he attended Explosive Ordinance Disposal School where he graduated in January 1993.
His first assignment as an EOD Tech was the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC.
In Feb 1995 he was assigned to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center 29 Palms, California and later reassigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 272, Camp Lejene, NC in 1998.
In June 2000, he was assigned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Lejuene, NC and later reassigned to II Marine Expeditionary, Special Operations Training Group in 2003.
In July 2005 he returned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion for his second deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II in September 2005.
